The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department will not distribute printed hunting applications for the upcoming fall turkey and mountain lion seasons.
The department said in a news release that in 2017 there were 4,663 applications for these two seasons. Of that total, 341 (7.3 percent) were submitted using paper applications.
Paper applications for these two seasons can still be requested from regional SDGFP offices or downloaded online at gfp.sd.gov/hunt-fish-license/.
Earlier this year, SDGFP stopped printing paddlefish, spring turkey and special buck applications. GFP will monitor customer input and feedback to help chart the course for future paper applications.
The first application deadline for South Dakota’s fall turkey season is Sept. 14. The season starts Nov. 1 and closes Jan. 31.
The application period for the Black Hills and Custer State Park mountain lion seasons opens Nov. 6.
